Photos courtesy of my father who traveled to Washington D.C. in June. If you've been to the World War II Memorial, I'd love to hear what you thought of it. It's on my list of "must see's."
The Memorial Park area of the National Mall is truly a beautiful place and a must see for anyone, but particularly all Americans. It's hard not to walk through these memorials and not get choked up or teary eyed. There is something in the air around them that makes you feel the presence of all the soldiers that have died for our country. From the Lincoln memorial, and across the reflecting pool, the world war II memorial is majestic in front of the Washington memorial. flanking both sides of the Lincoln are the Vietnam and Korean War memorials. They are all incredible works of art. Go at night, when the crowds are gone and the mall is lit up with beautiful white lights. It is a truly moving experience.
It is very moving. I went a couple of years ago with my youngest. We took each one of our kids to DC around middle school age. My dad, a WWII veteran and the "family historian" loved to go too. He wasn't able to make this last trip and passed away without being able to see the memorial. I'm sure he would have loved it too. Your pictures are beautiful. ludjapislagniappe.blogspot.com

Well said, Ell. Now I really want to go. You described it beautifully!
